The Mar Thoma Suvisesha Sevika Sanghom of the Marthoma Church was
inaugurated in February,1919 under the leadership of Abraham Mar Thoma Suffragan Metropolitan.
As an extension to it, on Sept 12,1993, chaired by then Vicar Rev P.G Mathew, the first meeting
of the women of St.Mark’s parish took place after the service at church. Achen delivered a
message emphasizing the purpose, aim and services of the organization, after which the office
bearers for the year were elected. Thus Sevika Sanghom of St.Mark’s Marthoma church was formed. .
In the beginning there were only few members and limited activities. Due
to the absence of our own worship place at the time meetings were held only during one Sunday of
the month. After 10 years it is a great pleasure to note that the organization has grown both
spiritually and financially. Meeting are held thrice every month. Bible study sessions, bible
quiz, prayers are held regularly. .
For the general needs of the parish the members help and contribute both
physically and financially. For instance the $15000 worth mike system for the new church was
contributed by the Sevika Sanghom. Today the membership within the group has grown to around 50. .
The organization interacts and associates with the Central office in
Tiruvalla, Diocese and takes part in their needs. .
We give importance to charitable services and social/humanitarian
activities. The Sevika Sanghom sponsors one child at the Navajeevan Centre, Mumbai. The Sevika
Sanghom also conducts fund raising activities such as sale events, auction sales etc. All
decisions are made after consulting the general body also. .
Every year annual meetings are held, and the annual report, accounts and
budget are scrutinized and passed. Office bearers for the year are also elected at the time.
