NewsLetter December 2005

Message from the Vicar

Dearly beloved in Christ,

I am extremely happy to greet you through the pages of this news letter which is the first of its kind in the history of our parish. Proper communication is an essential factor for the meaningful existence of any community. This news letter as well as the website inaugurated in the month of September, 2005, is expected to keep our members informed about the various programs of our parish/church. This should also foster our relationship and strengthen our fellowship and help us to participate actively in the affairs of the parish. The world including developed countries is becoming more insecure due to the inhuman acts of the terrorists. No country is exempted from terrorists, explosives or natural calamities. Let us remember the suffering ones especially in the hurricanes and pray to God of Universe to give them a way out. People become more self centered, committed to acquire power, money and position for themselves In this scenario, gospel is much relevant today. Love each other as I have loved you. May His Love be reflected through us to the whole world .Let us uphold the values of the Kingdom of God to make this world a better place.

May God bless you all; with prayers,
Alexander Tharakanachen.

Update on the Mexico Mission Project

Excerpts from the Diocesan Bishop's circular
Dated 8/10/2005
The recent hurricane by name Emily on Wednesday, 20th July 2005 with a wind speed of 120-160 miles/hour has hit the Matamoras city. Both the Islanders in Pontia Norte and Fantasia where we have our mission projects are the victims of this natural disaster. In Pontia Norte, out of the 45 houses that we built, only 9 buildings remain. Our Tailoring Institute, two school buildings, teacher's quarters and the medical clinic buildings have been totally destroyed. In Fantasia at least one third of the land was swallowed up by the sea and now only 12 of our houses remain. Now the Islanders are in temporary shelters. The government has agreed to provide land for two cities in the mainland to rehabilitate all the islanders. They will give 16 X 12 flooring in the new land for the new houses. They will also try to convince the islanders about the risk in continuing in the island and the need to move out of it. We have distributed kitchen utensils, clothes, groceries, necessary new clothes etc. to the people. Since both the Islanders have shown interest to move out of the islands, we need to rehabilitate them in the mainland by accepting the offer made by the government authorities. The Mission Board has decided to construct 60-70 new houses in the mainland. One house will cost a minimum of $ 2,500. We need to do this work on a war-footing. Parishes, Organizations and individuals are urged to sponsor the houses.
